The Great Scholarship Program provides financial support to promising students and continues to be among the most generous scholarship programs in the industry. The program distributes over $100,000 in tuition relief annually, through individual awards of up to $5,000 each.

We are now accepting applications for fall scholarship awards. To apply, you simply fill out a short form and write and upload a personal, essay-style response to the following question: 

What is exciting to you about a career in the cosmetology or barbering industry? Why? 

4 tips to make your essay stand out 

1. Be yourself: We want to get a sense for who you are! Are you an introvert with a passion for the latest trend cuts? Are you an extrovert with a knack for making people feel more confident? Let your unique personality shine through in your essay.  

2. Share your story: Your journey is like no one else’s. Paint a picture of how key elements of your life have led to this moment as a cosmetology or barbering student. Was your grandfather a barber? Did you cut and style your friends’ hair in school? Was your hair purple one week and lime green the next? We are big fans of original, authentic stories.   

3. Focus on your “why”: What is the #1 reason you chose to pursue this field? What is pushing you to earn your license? Why will you jump out of bed in the morning as a stylist or barber? 

4. Proof your work: Once you’ve written your essay, read it out loud a few times. Your ears will catch mistakes your eyes may have missed. Does the essay make sense? Does it read well? Most importantly, does it represent your story accurately? If so, upload it!

If you’re a student stylist or barber in the U.S. or Canada, you’re invited to apply! Scholarship applications are accepted year-round, and prizes are awarded in the spring and fall.
